All generators of spent fluorescent lamps are responsible for their proper disposal (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, RCRA).
The act specifies that unless you are a household, you are liable for proper disposal of your hazardous waste.

TCLP lamps will satisfy the legal requirement of proof that your waste is not hazardous.

MERCURY FACTS:

*Fluorescent bulbs contain small quantities of mercury, cadmium & antimony.

*It has been estimated that between 650 and 700 million fluorescent lamps are disposed in the United States every year.

*25 four foot fluorescent bulbs contains 1 gram of Mercury.

*It only takes 1 gram of Mercury to contaminate a 20 acre lake.

*The facts described by the EPA indicate that 5,200 bodies of water in the United States exceed Mercury levels beyond limits for consumption of fish.

*Studies show that there are over 4.5 billion fluorescent fixtures are in use and new fixtures are growing at a rate of 250,000 per month.

*Over 17 MILLION bulbs are discarded EACH DAY, of which only 3 million are recycled. The balance of 13 million end up in landfills.

*Enough bulbs are thrown away each month, that if placed end to end, would circle the EARTH THREE TIMES.

*Over 40 metric tons of Mercury is deposited in our landfills every year. This is enough Mercury to contaminate every body of water in the United States.

*Over 630,000 or one out of fifteen babies are born each year with high levels of mercury in their blood, due to fish consumption by their mothers, resulting in disabilities such as ADD, autism and other brain disorders.
